A Decent Value for the Cost-Conscious

When my sister and I decided to spend a three-day weekend in Las Vegas (we're from Los Angeles, so it's a quick flight), we needed to go on a budget. And we'd both been to Vegas before, so we knew what was out there. We found a great package deal for the Treasure Island, so we went for it. To start with the positive, the TI is a very good hotel on the north end of the strip. No, it's not very central, but you can get everywhere on the monorail, which we loved. It was like a ride at Disneyland. Anyway, our room was nice and very clean. Room service was excellent. But the insulation is bad, meaning you can hear people in the hall and in other rooms. Bummer. And the weekend we were there, the hotel itself seemed to be filled with a convention for small children! There were kids (families) everywhere. I have no idea why. Maybe they were attracted to low package prices as well? Anyway, back to the positive: Las Vegas is always great for delicious, cheap food - where else in the world can you get a steak and lobster dinner for under $10? We did spoil ourselves one night by going to The Mesa at Caesar's. Amazing food, fantastic atmosphere. Better than anything in L.A., that's for sure. We didn't go to any shows - we just cruised around and people-watched at night. We spent a lot of time in the TI's spa, and it was nice. Overall, it was a blast. If I go back to Vegas, I might spend a little more money on a different, newer hotel. Those thin walls are a big drawback.
