Avant-Garde Atmosphere Featuring Modern Conveniences
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Jun 9, 2008
The Silken Gran Havana Hotel, located in the City Centre, provides a home base for visitors wanting to explore the nearby dining, shopping, and entertainment Barcelona has to offer. A contemporary hotel featuring wirelessInternet connections, the Silken Gran Havana Hotel is the perfect stop for business travelers. The traditional façade of the Silken Gran Havana Hotel betrays the ultra-modern look of its interior. Renovated in 1991, the hotel kept its turn-of-the-century exterior complete with stone masonry and wrought-iron balconies. Stepping inside the neoclassical building, you'll find yourself in a contemporary kidney-shaped marble lobby furnished with a plentiful array of seating. The lobby looks up into an impressive glass atrium surrounded by the hotel's 145 rooms. The guest rooms include air-conditioning and soundproofing - especially welcoming when you want a refuge from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. The bathrooms feature Italian marble with stainless-steel sinks and large showers. A nice personal touch of the service is freshly cut flowers adorning every room. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the building, providing convenience to laptop users on the go. Business travelers would also want to take advantage of the new Executive floor, which houses 22 rooms designed especially for the executive and features large work areas. While the hotel offers a distinctive atmosphere, it does have its downfalls. Noise is a number one concern. Aside from the loud lobby, sounds from outside traffic, other rooms, and water pipes were noticeable. Also, the piano bar, being an open bar in the lobby, does not contribute to an intimate environment for drinking. Overall, this avant-garde hotel is a sure bet for a comfortable stay. With all modern amenities and a cozy environment, it is the perfect alternative for the executive who wants to get away from the conformity of a business hotel.
