Pricey All-Inclusive Beach Resort Not Up to Full Potential
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Jun 9, 2008
Like a city unto itself, the Sandals Regency St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa spans 210 acres across lush seaside hills and a coral bluff overlooking the Caribbean. This "couples only" resort features a crescent-shaped beach that stretches half a mile and a nine-hole golf course. The all-inclusive resort features unlimited meals and drinks, and use of all facilities and equipment. Guests can relax by one of three free-form pools with waterfalls or choose from a variety of activities. Water sports include snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and waterskiing. Those who prefer to be on land can participate in croquet, shuffleboard, volleyball, or an outdoor game of giant chess. The 327 guest rooms and suites offer air-conditioning and fantastic views of the sea or the gardens. Four-poster mahogany beds are offered in most rooms for that hint of sophistication. The décor can be hit or miss. The terra-cotta tile floor and mahogany furniture match well with the understated white walls of some rooms while other rooms, with its bright pastel walls and flowing fabric curtains and bed skirts, more resemble the inside of Genie's bottle. Another downside is the resort's firm definition of what constitutes a couple. Gay couples are not allowed into the resort as the policy of male-female couples is strongly emphasized and enforced. Overall, this Sandals resort is adequate for a comfortable stay but at the high rates charged, one would expect more.
