No-Frills Victorian Hotel Offers Old-Fashioned Charm
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Jun 9, 2008
Built in 1987, the Hotel St. Lauren is one of the newer hotels on Catalina Island. Sitting atop a hill, this Victorian hotel is within walking distance to Avalon's shops and restaurants yet far enough away from the downtown noise. The six-story hotel greets guests with a pink façade and more pink inside to match. The 42 guest rooms feature rosewood furniture and old-fashioned Victorian décor. Floral prints adorn the bedspreads, creating a homely atmosphere. Be sure to request a room with a balcony view of the breathtaking ocean and the surrounding city. While the location is great, this is a no-frills hotel with just the basic amenities. Rooms do not include refrigerators and the walls are thin. The complimentary breakfast delivered to your door could be improved greatly. Currently, it consists of an orange, tiny croissant, and coffee. If a cozy, intimate hotel is what you're looking for, the Hotel St. Lauren is a good choice.
