A Golfer's Dream and a Family Fun Spot
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Jun 9, 2008
This premium resort hotel on Palmetto Dunes, the 2,000-acre South Carolina residential and resort community, is a vacationer's paradise. A wealthy vacationer, that is. There is a lot to do, but everything costs extra - even beach-chair rentals. The hotel itself is a spectacular property in a fantastic location, and the rooms, while not luxurious, are well-appointed. The hotel is aging a bit, and could use a few upgrades - especially at these prices. Nonetheless, this is an outstanding resort. It features three championship golf courses, 25 tennis courts, and ocean activities including fishing, sailing and beachside fun. Hilton Head also has hundreds of miles of beautifully maintained paths, and families can rent resort bikes for exploring them or riding out to the beach. During the summer, there are also numerous arranged activities for three- to 12-year-olds. Water lovers can rent kayaks and canoes for navigating the 11 miles of lagoons. And those who are more prone to stay in a horizontal position while on vacation can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Pool space is always at a premium, so guests have to get out there early and reserve a spot. Boogie boards, kayaks, sailboats and buggies are also available, and ocean lovers have access to numerous deep-sea fishing charters, crabbing, sailboat and power-boat rentals, nature excursions, and dinner cruises. The hotel's restaurants are excellent, but Conroy's gets consistent rave reviews for its food and atmosphere. This is a luxury excursion, and a grand adventure. Next time you feel like spoiling yourself for a week or two, this might be the perfect place to do it.
