"Situated on the Gulf of Mexico, the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere in a casual resort setting. The hotel features its own private 600-foot beach right outside its doors. Guests are also conveniently close to St. Armands Circle. Other nearby attractions include Mote Aquarium, Selby Gardens, and Sarasota Jungle Gardens. Downtown Sarasota is also only four miles away.
The hotel consists of seven buildings housing a total of 179 guest rooms. The decor is typical Florida-style -- bright colors and vibrant pastel hues. All rooms include cable television with HBO, coffeemakers, hair dryers, refrigerators, and vanity mirrors. Air conditioning and in-room safes are also included. Dial-up Internet access is complimentary, and high-speed access is available for a fee. One downside to the rooms is their thin walls. Because the rooms feature exterior corridors, outside noise can easily travel through the walls.
The hotel facilities include a fitness center, a gift shop, a business center, and three restaurants. Two outdoor pools, a sundeck, and a pool bar are also available. Guests also have the option of renting bikes and non-motorized water-sports equipment, such as kayaks, from the hotel.
Overall, the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel provides a convenient beachside stay with more-than-adequate amenities."

This place was VERY run down. My NON-smoking room reeked of the smell of stale smoke with burn marks everywhere. Carpet on a beach front unit? When I complained about the lack of AC and the smoke smell their answer was to give me a fan and say I don't understand how it is a non-smoking room. My 6-night stay ended after only 1 night only because I did not want to lose my deposit. Very overpriced.
