Would Come Back Again
Review From: Anne Dupin, Jun 9, 2008
Back in November, 2005, three friends and I were planning a girls weekend from Rochester, NY to celebrate our 50th birthdays. Of the places to visit, Chicago was at the top of the list. Finding a hotel was a bit of an adventure, given that none of us had been to Chicago before, so I went online and started to read some reviews. Based on what I read about the Palmer House, I figured it would be a good location (close to Michigan Avenue) and it sounded like the rooms were nice, especially the 2 bathrooms/double room feature (a real PLUS when there would be 2 women in each room!!!!). Although we asked for an early check-in, when we arrived on 6/1/06 at 11:00 the room was not ready, which was fine. They said they would get us an adjoining room if we waited - PERFECT! We left our bags and headed off on Michigan Avenue. When we got back around 3:00, we were blown away by the beauty of our rooms - they were HUGE and very well appointed. With the exception of taking a taxi to the Apollo Theater, we walked every where else (up and down Michigan Avenue and over to the Navy Pier). We also took a city tour and were able to sign up right at the hotel and catch the bus just outside the hotel. We found a diamond in the rough with the wonderful Carson Pirie Scott department store just across the street. We spent 2 hours in there one morning (they have a FANTASTIC petite dept.) It was great just to be able to walk across the street to our hotel and drop our bags before heading out again. The ONLY downside to this hotel was the $16 I paid for a glass of wine at the bar. Otherwise, this was a PERFECT location for a girls weekend getaway in a wonderful town!!!!
