Mary & Joe Shurilla, have recently opened Canal House Bed & Breakfast, their second bed and breakfast in northeast Ohio. Canal House, a Georgian style Post & Beam home, is located along the historic Ohio & Erie Canal south of Akron and northwest of Canton. Canal House, built in 1885 or earlier, is considered to be Georgian architecture because of its hip roof structure. Interior construction consisting of post and beam, pinned beams, and cut nails are indicative of early 1800's building methods.
Hardwood oak flooring over hand hewn beams and original Italianate fret work provides ambiance in the parlor and dining areas. Canal House offers three guest rooms with private baths. The Canal Room has an outdoor balcony overlooking the Ohio and Erie Canal and downtown Canal Fulton.
The North Room, a suite of two rooms, has a private entrance to the whirlpool area. The third room, also a suite, is located on the ground level. Other amenities include full breakfast, air conditioning, cable TV, whirlpool, off street paved parking, and smoke-free environment. Fruit/cheese baskets are offered on arrival.
Many attractions are within easy drive, including Clay's Park, Inventure Place in Akron, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, and Wayne and Holmes County Amish attractions.
